Welcome to Robin's Nest Nature Preschool!
We're so glad that you have decided to join our special community. New beginnings can bring up many questions for children and families, so we hope that this page can answer those questions for you and help you feel ready for, and acclimated to, nature preschool. However, please don't hesitate to contact us for more information.
How to Pack for the Nest
Thank you for thoughtfully preparing your child for school. Please keep the following recommendations in mind:
Use a big bag vs. multiple small bags. Each child has a hook to hang their belongings for the day.
Send insulated water bottles that are at least 14oz big. We will refill your child's bottle throughout the day.
We recommend sending snacks and lunches without any packaging or trash. We encourage healthy, balanced meals!
Bags should always have: Two full sets of seasonally appropriate clothing, a wet bag, extra shoes or boots.
If you child is using pull ups please only send the type that velcro at the sides!
How to Dress for the Nest
Your care and preparation are an important part of the environment we create together to support independence and success for children to grow and develop with confidence and to build self-esteem based on real accomplishments.
There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes. That's right, we feel we can dress to enjoy Mother Nature in almost any weather! Dangerous skies and below-zero temps do bring us inside, but otherwise, we recommend checking the weather and packing appropriately for the day.
Raingear: We recommend Reima, Didricksons, Polarn O. Pyret, Kuling, Helly Hansen. We suggest sizing up.
Boots: We recommend wool lined boots that are fully rubber for both rain and snow. We suggest sizing up!
Mittens: We recommend sending 3 waterproof mittens during cold days, brands we love are Hestra, Burton, Grodini, Reima
Snow gear: We recommend a high quality snow suit from a brand like Burton, Reima, Helly Hansen, Polarn O. Pyret, Patagonia. We suggest sizing up.
Hats: We require hats almost every day of the year. We ask that children wear sun or baseball hats during warm weather and a balaclava, winter hat and neck warmer during cold weather months.
Baselayers: During cold weather months children should wear wool, fleece or polyester base layers and mid layers. Children should not wear cotton in winter or rain. Children should come to school in two pants and two shirts.
